These photos were taken outdoors in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2014, on the Maidan (Independence Square).

I was encouraged to go into a rather uncomfortable environment where the Maidan was occupied by the resistance, and memories of the people who died during that fight were still very raw. 

​

I set up a table and chair in the middle of the square, and some of my Ukrainian speaking helpers asked people to participate.

​

Again Ukrainian participants showed their fortitude, and willingness to embrace a stranger.
